Easy Cajun Style Recipes That Anybody Can Make

Cajun style food is full of flavor. It takes inexpensive items and adds characteristic flavors to make a fantastic culinary experience.

Certain things are characteristic to the Cajun flavor. One is a Cajun Seasoning, either commercial or home made. If you make it at home be sure to use cumin, paprika, garlic and cayenne in proportions you like. Oregano is good too. You can make it with salt or salt free.

A second addition is the Cajun Trinity of cooking. That is roughly chopped bell peppers, celery and onions. Add to meats, stews, rice and gumbo. Gumbo is a stew that includes chopped okra.

Third, thicken soups and sauces with a roux. That is wheat flour browned in butter. It has a rich flavor when stirred into liquids.

Quick examples you can make are burgers on the grill: add Cajun seasoning to the meat you use as well as putting it in the barbecue sauce you baste with. Dirty rice or red beans and rice start with basic cooked rice to which you add Cajun seasoning, meat, or red beans. Use shrimp or sausage in your rice dishes. The most authentic is andouille sausage.

Cajun cooking is great for fall gatherings and is both filling and flavorful, a tasty treat.
